Jewel Tones: A Dazzling Modern Interior Color Trend

Trend Report

Amethyst and ruby, amber, and emerald. Brilliant jewel tones are enlivening contemporary interior schemes to dazzling effect.

Emerald

Deep green tones are making their way into interior design schemes, and we couldn't be more envious. The Gus* Margot Sofa, above, resplendent in green velvet, embodies the modern emerald (and velvet) fixation, pitch-perfect for the holdays, yes, but a dazzling gem throughout the year. Going green just got a whole lot easier.

Amethyst

A pop of Prince-ly purple, illustrated in the Louis Poulsen Panthella Mini table lamp, above, adds a royal touch to a modern interior scheme of neutral tones. Be bold enough to go with a deep purple lounge chair from Artless or a Kartell vase in vivid violet. Amethyst, in any shade, remains blindinglly beautiful.

Ruby

It's easy to see red in a modern space. Mid Century Modern buffs will easily fall for the Knoll Saarien Tulip Chair, above, cushioned in deep red upholstery—but smaller ruby touches can be just as alluring. The Connubia Ice Counter Stool, with its red-hot seat, is a head-turner, while Foscarini's Twiggy Floor Lamp stands tall in Crimson.

Amber

Amber's earthy sparkle and coppery shine is especially suited to elegant contemporary spaces in which the color scheme favors restraint over exuberance. The Calligaris Saint Tropez chair, above, in transparent polycarbonate, exemplifies the nuanced beauty of amber, while pendant lights from Foscarini and Niche make golden additions.

Sapphire

Banish winter blues with sapphire, cobalt, indigo, and other vivid blue shades that add jewel-like nuance to a contemporary space. Nanimarquina's Jie Rug, above, is designed to floor, but delicate sapphire touches are equally compelling. The GUBI Blue Velvet Beetle Lounge Chair is a show-stopper, while iittala's Kastehelmi Tealight glitters like the gem it is.
