MuNiMulA's lines of objects and furniture rely on notions of making that derive from the simultaneous implementation of industrial production and handmade execution. MuNiMulA endorses a culture of investigation and research into materials and techniques.
The background of the designers in the fine arts, architecture, engineering, and manufacturing is enhanced by the collaboration established with MuNiMulA's welders, and machinists. All cutting, machining, welding, and finishing is done by hand at MuNiMulA's manufacturing facility in southern Michigan--a location characterized by a strong historic manufacturing presence. This context provokes and informs the designs with a critical economy of means and clear understanding of materials.
MuNiMulA's process identifies selective capricious needs which are addressed through a set of essential material parameters where aluminum is explored on its own and in relation to resin, industrial glass, felt, silicon, leather, and wood. The designs are purposefully instilled with an indeterminacy that engages the user in the final collaborative issues of color, configuration, and function. |
