60 years after its initial launch, the Louis Poulsen PH 5 Pendant lamp is now available in a new range of colorways. One of the great modern lighting designs of the 20th Century, the PH 5, with its multi-shade system of glare-free lighting, has never fallen out of favor, its timeless elegance a staple of modern homes around the world. Louis Poulsen, the Danish manufacturer of the PH 5, is marking the 60th anniversary of this design icon with the release of 8 new colors, adding two white hues—Classic White and Modern White—and 6 inspired shades of orange, rose, red, green, blue and gray to the lamp's existing color offerings. The same range of colors are also being made available in the Louis Poulsen PH 5 Mini.
The great Danish designer Poul Henningsen created the PH 5 in 1958, arriving at a nuanced, glare-free lighting solution by composing an innovative system of layered, petal-like shades that cast downward and lateral illumination simultaneously, imbuing a space with the atmospheric glow reminiscent of the kerosene lamps of Henningsen's youth. The PH 5's artful composition, combined with its nuanced light quality, yielded a highly desirable modern lighting fixture that continues to transcend contemporary trends and modern technology, worthy of celebration as a modern design marvel 60 years after its arrival.
