Upon graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1995 with both a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Interior Architecture, Andrea Valentini co-founded an interior architecture firm. Recognized for her award winning commercial and residential designs, Andrea customized every aspect of her interiors—from furniture to lighting. In 2000, Andrea launched her first furniture collection. By 2001, she had debuted her designs at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in New York. The piece that received the most outstanding critical acclaim was her “Coosh” egg chair. Interior Design Magazine selected it to be part of their furniture design competition. The Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum nominated the “Coosh” chair for their 2003 Best Product Design Award. The museum then asked her to submit a body of work for their National Design Triennial. For this submission, she was chosen to exhibit with 80 fellow designers in the 2003 edition of “Inside Design Now.” After a successful career as an interior architect, Andrea began shifting her focus on developing a process for unique compositions with innovative materials using recycled foams and protective fabrics, thus creating a technique for producing her own sculptural textiles. The versatility of these materials allows infinite surface textures and patterns to accommodate all mediums of design from personal accessories for travel and business to home goods such as placemats and pillows. In 2004, Andrea was contracted to design a cushion cover using her sculptural fabric for the W Hotel in Seoul Korea. 2007, using her signature textiles. Andrea launched her first collection of lifestyle handbags for women and men, which motivated her to establish her own fashion design label: Andrea Valentini In 2009, Andrea opened her first flagship showroom in Providence, Rhode Island. Simultaneously, she donated a gallery in part of the space called the “Launch Gallery” to RISD seniors and recent graduates in an effort to launch them from campus to community with their first solo exhibitions. Andrea Valentini has mastered all facets of design ranging from architecture and interior furnishings to apparel and accessories encompassing function and adornment. Inspired by the human connection, Andrea’s designs, seek purpose to be both admired as complete works of art and utilized in everyday life.
